Meet Meghann

MEET MEGHANN

Meghann Young was born and raised in southwest Louisiana into a family of Cajun cooks. Her grandfather, Gil Young, was pictured on a cover of National Geographic while making Boudin sausage.  Other family members are also noted Cajun cooks.  In fact, her mother and father as well as her grandfather have all been crowned Champions in the Crawfish Etouffee Cook-off, held annually in Eunice, Louisiana.

Meghann grew up hunting and fishing with her father.  These activities led to a love of eating wild game dishes, including some of her favorites: deer pot-roast, wild duck, and her absolute favorite, wild dove.  To this day, she still loves to hunt and fish with family.  As a child she participated in traditional Cajun cultural events such as boucheries and making boudin sausage.  As a result, at age 12, Meghann was featured in a children’s book entitled Growing up in Cajun Country.

Moving to Baton Rouge to attend LSU, Meghann worked in the hospitality industry, eventually joining the Juban’s team in 2008.  Upon graduating with a degree in art history, she moved up through the ranks at Juban’s and was soon promoted to Special Events Coordinator and Catering Director.

In 2011, Meghann and her siblings had the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being featured in an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” television show filmed in their hometown.  During the show, they prepared Acadian cuisine usingthird-generation family recipes.

Meghann serves as a gallery assistant and volunteer at the LSU Museum of Art.  “Her interest and work in the arts as well as her fine arts degree bring a broad and distinctive point of view to the way she approaches her role as special events coordinator at Juban’s,” says General Manager, Scott Callais.
