Since
1983, the Juban family has been offering acclaimed Creole cuisine, gracious
hospitality and a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere at Juban's Restaurant.
It is family at Juban's: Carol Bannerman Juban and Ken Juban with
son, Stephen Juban and son in law, Michael Boudreaux; Miriam Maxwell
Juban and son, Jason Juban. They welcome you to enjoy a memorable
culinary experience!
Ray
and Molly Juban, lifelong Baton Rouge residents, raised their four children
in the quiet and genial area of town known as Southdown's. In
1965, Ray and a neighbor bought a strip of land on Perkins Road near
Acadian Thruway and developed the Acadian-Perkins Center. It was
here that Juban's Restaurant was founded in 1983.
The
original idea was to build a casual-upscale restaurant with small dining
rooms surrounding an atrium bar. The atrium was to have the charm
of a New Orleans courtyard. Nothing like it had ever been built
in Baton Rouge before. The restaurant opened to an instant success.
Esquire Magazine's John Mariani named it as one of the "Best New
Restaurants in America."
Over
the next two decades, Juban's Restaurant continued to set the standard
for culinary excellence in the Gulf South. Under the direction
of Chef Terry McDonner, the restaurant garnered numerous accolades and
awards for its unique rendition of Creole food.
In
2002, the restaurant expanded into the adjoining building. Interior
designer, Albert Nolan creatively blended the original space with the
new area giving the restaurant an updated look but retaining the now-famous
warmth and charm. The addition added a large banquet room, small
private dinning rooms, and atrium fireplace and the popular Wine Room.
Recently the Veranda was opened for patio dining.
Today,
Juban's Restaurant and Catering is professionally operated and managed
by two generations of the Juban family: Carol Bannerman Juban
and husband Ken Juban, their son Stephen and son in law Michael Boudreaux;
and Miriam Maxwell Juban and son Jason.
Miriam
Juban and Carol Juban are active daily in the restaurant. Juban's
is a proud member of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, the Better
Business Bureau of Greater Baton Rouge, the Chamber of Commerce, National
Caterers Association and the National Association of Catering Executives.
Miriam served as president of the Louisiana Restaurant Association for
2004 and is a member of the Sunrise Rotary. Carol was on the board
of the National Caters Association. Community involvement has
been important for Juban's Restaurant with the family so well rooted
in Baton Rouge.
